H04 TELL THEM TEST OR TEST THEN TELL? OR . . . HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT WRONG ALL THIS TIME?
Joe Ganci, President, Dazzle Technologies Corporation
Stop the madness—enough with boring, linear e-learning! We have the ability to individualize the learning experience. Experts should be able to fly through lessons and prove they know their stuff; novices should be able to have their hands held and be given all the help they need. By providing a "one-size-fits-all" approach, you do almost all your learners a disservice. That's the "tell-then-test" approach that is pervasive in the industry. The better approach is to challenge learners as much as possible and as soon as possible. And here's the big secret: it doesn't have to cost any more to create than the boring stuff! Learn both methods and why in some cases the traditional method still works and in other cases the test-then-tell approach should be strongly considered.

H06 JUMPING CANYONS: MOVING FROM TACTICAL TO STRATEGIC TO BUSINESS PARTNER
Rick Cobb, Executive Vice President, Challenger, Gray & Christmas
The complexity of supporting people in an organization has created a multitude of HR disciplines. Training is a critical and positive element of the entire HR spectrum. As with all disciplines, training must align its efforts with the objectives of the corporation and senior management. Often however, our careers begin with the tactical, and this "start" inhibits our ability to see and support the company goals. We become "obscured" by the specific needs and can run in "ruts" so deep, it’s impossible to see over the sides. Jumping the Canyon will look at the elements of growth, relevance and success in all stages of your career lifespan. We will look at the inherent, internal, external, and experiential reasons for success and failure.
